The Consultation-Liaison service welcomes Sherrikee Causey, DNP, APRN, NP-C, PMHNP-BC to the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior.

Dr. Causey joined us in October to assist with our busy adult and pediatric psychiatry consultation practices.  She has quickly become a key team member, collaborating with faculty and working alongside psychiatry residents.

As an undergraduate, Dr. Causey prepared for a career in healthcare by majoring in biological sciences at University of Southern Mississippi (2000).  She later earned her bachelor of science in nursing (2007), master of science in nursing (2010), and doctorate of nursing practice (2018) here at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Causey brings experience from the inpatient and outpatient settings.  As an RN she worked in the neurology ICU at St. Dominic’s from 2007 to 2010.  As a nursing student and NP student she trained at UMMC’s Unacare Community Health Center in midtown Jackson.  She was employed at Unacare as a family nurse practitioner from 2010 to 2020, treating patients of all ages.  Dr. Causey was inspired to pursue certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (2020) to complement her work in family practice.

Community healthcare remains a passion, and Dr. Causey hopes to enhance outreach and coordination of services for our UMMC psychiatric patients.  As a lifelong learner, Dr. Causey looks for opportunities to expand her medical knowledge and clinical skills.  Her next goal is to pursue buprenorphine waiver training so that she can offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder.

Welcome, Dr. Causey!
